- Osteomyelitis: An infection of the bone and bone marrow; osteomyelitis can result from an open wound, surgery, or an infection spreading from another part of the body. Symptoms include fever, pain in the affected bone, and swelling. IV antibiotics are frequently used to treat osteomyelitis, often requiring a more extended treatment course due to its difficult-to-reach location.
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract, UTIs can infect the bladder, urethra, or kidneys. Symptoms include frequent urination, a burning sensation during urination, and cloudy or dark urine. Antibiotics are typically prescribed to treat UTIs and can be administered orally, intramuscularly (IM), or intravenously (IV), depending on the severity of the infection.
- Sepsis: Also known as bacteremia, sepsis is a severe, life-threatening infection that occurs when bacteria enter the bloodstream. Symptoms include fever, low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty breathing. IV antibiotics are often used to treat sepsis, as the infection can spread quickly throughout the body.
- Abscesses, Endocarditis, and Pneumonia: Abscesses are pockets of pus that develop in the body due to infection. Endocarditis is an infection of the heart’s inner lining, and pneumonia is a lung infection caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses. These conditions can also be treated with anti-infective therapy.
